Breana Turner is a 5th-year PhD candidate in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health program. She earned a Master of Public Health from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University in kinesiology. Breana’s research combines frameworks from Black Feminist Theory and Superwoman Schema to understand Black women’s perceptions surrounding health and wellness. She joined the HealthConnect One team in 2024 as a Birth Equity Fellow and has since contributed to the organization. In her role, Breana has worked to expand the organizational research capacity and visibility, focusing on projects that address disparities in maternal and child health. As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Breana aspires to uphold the values of service and excellence in all her endeavors. She is deeply committed to advocating for health equity and amplifying the voices of under-invited communities, especially Black women.
