Courtney J. Thomas is a PhD student in Epidemiology at Tulane University Weatherhead School of Public Health and a fellow with the Southern Center for Maternal Health, an NIH-funded Maternal Health Research Center of Excellence. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Population Health Sciences. Her research interests include perinatal and reproductive epidemiology, disaster epidemiology, implementation science, and community-based participatory research, with particular attention to underserved and disaster-affected populations.
Her current research focuses on the effectiveness of remote blood pressure monitoring among pregnant women across all risk levels for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, especially in the Gulf Coast and rural Louisiana. Additionally, she has worked on projects to improve maternal mental health in disaster-prone areas through community support programming, co-developing an implementation manual to empower community members to establish such programs.
