Joanne Nicholson, PhD, is a clinical and research psychologist, Professor at the Institute for Behavioral Health in the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, and Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the UMass Chan Medical School. Her research is largely applied and community-engaged, focusing on the development, implementation, testing, and sustainability of interventions, services and supports for families living with parents with behavioral health conditions. Individuals with lived experience are active partners in these projects, currently including mothers with behavioral health conditions and developmental disabilities. Nicholson is co-founder of the NIDILRR-funded National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities at Brandeis. She was a member of the SAMHSA Advisory Committee for Women’s Services and co-chaired the Data, Research, and Accountability work group of the National Maternal Mental Health Task Force.
