Senam Ametsitsi, MD, MPH/MBA candidate, is a physician from Ghana with a deep commitment to advancing equitable healthcare for women and marginalized communities. She has nearly three years of clinical experience providing free services in preconception care, family planning, screening, and community-based awareness programs, with a strong focus on women’s and reproductive health.
She earned her medical degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where her passion for accessible and affordable healthcare was shaped through leadership and service. During medical school, Senam spearheaded a United Nations Students Association initiative that supported over 200 children living with cancer through free therapy, screening, and awareness campaigns. She also secured funding and led a two-phase cervical cancer awareness and screening project that reached more than 500 women.
Prior to pursuing her MPH/MBA at Johns Hopkins University, Senam managed an under-resourced mother–baby unit, where she leveraged professional networks to facilitate timely referrals and lifesaving care for critically ill neonates at tertiary institutions.
Her current work focuses on advancing maternal health through predictive data analytics and applied research on severe maternal morbidity (SMM). She conducts SMM-focused research in Colorado with End Grain Research & Evaluation, examining preventable maternal complications and the structural, clinical, and social drivers of inequities in maternal outcomes. At Johns Hopkins, she serves as a research assistant with the Twin Lab at the Fetal Therapy Center and supports several initiatives at the School of Nursing, including THRIVE, CROWN, and ADHINCRA, all aimed at improving cardiovascular and maternal health outcomes in underserved populations.
Outside of her professional work, Senam enjoys exploring new places and is deeply committed to mentoring emerging leaders in health and research.
