Chioma Okerulu serves as the Evaluation Manager for Perinatal Health and School Readiness at Family League of Baltimore. She is a passionate advocate for maternal, child, and adolescent health, bringing a unique blend of clinical expertise and public health experience.
Her work spans direct clinical care and large-scale public health programs in both Nigeria and the United States. Through her leadership in HIV/AIDS prevention and care, she witnessed how targeted, culturally responsive, and data-informed strategies can transform outcomes for vulnerable populations. These experiences shaped her enduring commitment to health equity and to designing programs that are not only evidence-based, but truly community-centered.
Chioma is deeply committed to strengthening maternal and child health systems so that every pregnancy, birth, and early childhood experience is supported with dignity and equity. She has contributed to research aimed at reducing disparities in adolescent well-being and advancing positive maternal and child health outcomes—developing advocacy resources for adolescent-focused and youth-led organizations, strengthening evidence on the effectiveness of mobile health clinics, and advancing community-driven approaches to combat maternal mortality and improve child survival. Her work reflects a clear belief that mothers and children should not only survive, but thrive.
She holds a Doctor of Medicine from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria, and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and remains dedicated to advancing responsive, equitable systems of care for families and future generations.
