Maria Cortinez is a fourth-year medical student at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and will be applying to pediatrics residency this year. She is exploring a future career in either neonatology, general pediatrics, or pediatric gastroenterology, with a central interest in how nutrition shapes maternal, infant, and family health.
During a recent gap year, Maria focused on the intersection of nutrition and mental health in vulnerable populations, developing educational resources and working on a cookbook aimed at making evidence-based nutrition accessible and practical for families.
She is passionate about preventive care, health equity, and supporting families during critical developmental periods. Outside of medicine, Maria enjoys cooking, drawing, and spending time with her puppy, Bruno—especially taking him on long walks by the ocean or watching him play in the snow.
