Rebeca Hofer, MSIII, is a third-year medical student at University of South Dakota, Sanford School of Medicine. Originally from Sioux Falls, SD, she received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Mandarin from Wheaton College in the west suburbs of Chicago in 2020.
After graduating, she worked as an advocate at a local domestic violence shelter and later served as a behavioral health counselor manager at a residential psychiatric unit in downtown Chicago. These professional experiences emphasized the importance of leadership and communication, as well as fostering her commitment to public health and health equity.
Through her work and training, Hofer is interested in examining health disparities faced by women in both rural and global contexts. She offers particular attention to social determinants of health, access to care, and mental health. She recently completed her clinical year at Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics through the Frontier and Rural Medicine (FARM) Program, a critical access hospital serving a 5-county catchment area. Hofer hopes to continue serving rural and Indigenous populations in her future career as a physician. Her research interests includes pregnancy complications, maternal health disparities, global medicine, and sexual health.
