Sanford School of Medicine
Mariah Block, MSIII, is a medical student at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and plans to pursue a career in pediatrics. Growing up in rural South Dakota, she developed an early appreciation for the importance of access to safe environments, nutritious food, and quality medical care in shaping children’s health.
Through the Frontier and Rural Medicine (FARM) Program, she completed her core clinical training at a critical access hospital, where she deepened her commitment to practicing in rural communities and addressing gaps in care for underserved families.
At AMCHP, she is presenting her community project partnering with South Dakota’s only women’s prison to provide infant CPR education to incarcerated mothers. This work reflects her belief that improving child health begins with supporting families wherever they are.
Block hopes to build a career centered on compassionate pediatric care, community partnership, and advancing health equity for children in rural and underserved settings.
